Professional Learning Communities Rock!

The Picture Me Thinking Model is a research-based system of scaffolding that helps teachers and students navigate the Inquiry-to-Writing process and apply Core Academic Concepts.

Integrating inquiry methods into writing instruction is the most effective way to improve academic writing across subjects (Miller, Scott, and McTigue).1

When teachers use the PMT Model 1) to frame inquiry into core disciplinary concepts and 2) to help students develop argumentative essays, they help students meet Career and College Readiness Goals.

How to Get Started

The PMT Online Professional Development Course is a time-efficient and cost-effective resource for grade 5-12 teachers of core academic subjects. The 6-level course can be presented on-site, in 30 to 45-minute sessions per level, over 6 to 12 weeks.

Two-year course subscriptions can be purchased for Whole-School Presentations ($80 per level - $480 total) and/or for Individual Educators ($15 per level - $90 total). This makes it easy to pilot the course with your innovative teachers or department heads.

Electing both options 1) creates group buy-in during staff meetings, and 2) makes it easy for teachers to revisit the methods and tools at their own pace.

Schools have the option of offering one unit of continuing education credit to teachers who a) complete the Picture Me Thinking video course, and b) participate in lesson planning sessions with peers for a total of 7 hours over the 6 to 12-week course.
